Someone Already Restored This 1967 Home for You | Bedford Real Estate

Image
Location:  Urbana, Illinois Price:  $296,000 The Skinny:  Thanks to the glass walls surrounding the courtyard of this late-'60s dwelling, you can peer from the entryway all the way through the wall of glass in back, out onto the fairway of the Urbana Country Club's 18-hole golf course. Which isn't quite nature unspoiled, but the view is still a beautiful one. Champaign-area architect  John Replinger  designed the three-bedroom home, which was bought in 2009 for  $252K  and beautifully rehabbed by and artist and an architect. According to  the listing,  the landscaping of the yard was inspired by the work of modernist landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. There's also a vegetable garden to the side, and the makings of a good rock garden in the courtyard. Part of the restoration included refinishing the hardwood floors, and blessedly, did not include gutting the kitchen and bringing in a granite countertop, as they often seem to with ...

Cubans on the move as new real estate market grows | Bedford Real Estate

“Its capitalist!” So goes the Cuban real estate description of a great house to buy. After President Raul Castro eased restrictions in 2011, the housing market is beginning to boom, though underground maneuvers are of course part of the wheeling and dealing. HAVANA — At an informal housing market on Havana’s historic Paseo del Prado, Renaldo Belen puts the hard sell on a prospective buyer under a tree hung with hand-lettered signs advertising homes for sale. A house near Boyeros, the avenue to the city’s airport, is being offered for the equivalent of $120,000, with all the amenities. “The house is beautiful. It has four bedrooms, a pool with a bar and a fountain with a lion’s head on top. Look,” says Belen, pointing to photos on the sign, “water comes out of the lion’s mouth.” Pausing for dramatic effect, Belen, one of the many touts, or “runners” working at the market, delivers what he hopes will be the coup de grace. “This place needs no work. It is of capitalist constru...

Healthier Swimming in Gorgeous Natural Pools | Bedford Real Estate

Swimming can be great exercise and a lot of fun, not to mention an exciting sport at the Olympics. But the chlorine used in most pools can have some negative side effects, not the least of which is reliance on toxic (and finicky) chemicals. Chlorine’s damaging effects on hair are well known, but few people realize that a number of studies have linked inhalation of the chemical by swimmers to increased asthma rates (in fact a new Irish study published this April reported a significant link between the number of years a boy had been swimming and the likelihood of the child being wheezy in the past year.) A Norwegian study also documented an increased risk of wheezing among children who swim in pools before 6 months of age. Further, in an unpleasant reaction, pee and sweat in water can react with chlorine to form toxic breakdown products known as chloramines. For health, environmental and aesthetic reasons, a lot of people have expressed interest in alternatives to chlorine pools, an...

How the Weather Can Save You Money | Bedford Real Estate

Some summertime savings could be headed your way as new energy projections show a decrease in electric bills this summer,  The Wall Street Journal  reports. According to the  U.S. Energy Information Administration , the average household will pay $395 for electricity in June, July and August, a solid 2.5-percent decrease from last summer. Assuming these projections hold true, this will be the third summer in a row with lower electrical spending. But unlike the last two summers, this drop in bills has nothing to do with lower electricity rates. Lower temperatures are the reason Americans use less air conditioning and pocket some extra cash. After three blistering summers, government forecasters are saying that this summer’s temperatures will align more with the average levels. Since air conditioning is the main culprit for larger electricity bills in the summer, households can turn off their AC units and find other ways to cool off homes, causing the ...

You are hiring a Realtor to provide you with maximum exposure to the greatest number of qualified buyers for your home. Supply and Demand You’ve heard of supply and demand? The more potential buyers at your supply, the higher a priceyou can demand. Image
For all those  super cautious people  in the world, they have to be wondering if it is time to enter the real estate market. Should you consider a move today, or is waiting prudent? Some Home Values Are Rising  - After six long years of declining home values, it appears the trend has turned for homes priced below $250,000 in Tallahassee. Economy benefits as foreign capital pours into resources, real estate | Bedford Real Estate

Image
Source: The Australian BUSINESSES exposed to the international marketplace are having a hard time with the Australian dollar trading above US105c, but the economy is much the richer for the rerating by global capital of Australian investment opportunities. Foreign investment is pouring into Australia at a faster rate than ever before, at a time when globally, foreign direct investment flows are either flat or declining. To date, the money is overwhelmingly going to resource projects, but an analysis of Australia's appeal to foreign investors by ANZ foreign currency strategist Andrew Salter shows real estate is a major destination with potential to become much larger. Mergers and acquisitions, which have been quiet for the past year, could also attract a lot more global capital over the year ahead. There is a temptation to see the high value of the currency as something that world markets have "done to us" and ...

Homeowners faking filings to delay foreclosure | Bedford NY Real Estate

Image
Homeowners in California are buying fake documents to delay foreclosures on their properties, a local paper reports. Prosecutors in Stanislaus County, California, have cottoned on to the practice and begun cases against four homeowners. The four are accused of filing phony court documents - claiming the debt has been repaid or changing a trustee - in an attempt to stall foreclosure proceedings. "It comes to a point where enough is enough. How many breaks can we give these people?” Jeff Mangar, a prosecutor with the district attorney's fraud unit, told The Modesto Bee . Staff handling filings are now aware of the practice and tip off investigators. The counterfeit court filings are available online - for a fee - from websites claiming they can tie up banks in administrative proceedings for years. A website reviewed by the Bee claims none of its 2,600 customers have made a mortgage payment in the past two years. via securingindustry.com
