Naturally Modern in the Montana Mountains | Waccabuc Real Estate

Image
Near Montana’s Glacier National Park, the town of Whitefish boasts a largely rustic architectural vernacular: log cabins, stone walls, steeply pitched roofs. And when the owner of a sloping forested lot with views of Whitefish Lake and a ski mountain wanted to build a home that was modern and clean, he intended the design to feel like it still fit with the local style. He tapped architect David Koel of CTA Architects Engineers and interior designer Hunter Dominick of Hunter and Company Interior Design to help create a two-story home that was simple, airy and locked into the landscape with natural, humble materials. In other words, a home that belonged right where it was. More sellers are now putting their homes on the market than at this time last year, according to the latest National Housing Trend Report from realtor.com®. Inventories of homes for sale rose 10% year-over-year to 1.744 million units, indicating increasing seller optimism and a strong, early beginning to the spring home-buying season, according to the report’s February data.    The median list price of $199,000 was 7.6% higher than it was during the same month last year, while the median age of inventory increased 6.5% above last year’s figures, to 114 days. “Overall, these figures indicate a continued reinforcement of steady gains and market stabilization that we’ve been watching since late last summer,” said Steve Berkowitz, CEO of Move Inc., the parent company of realtor.com®. “Seller confidence is the factor to watch as we head into the spring home-buying season, and these are very encouraging indicators—not only are more homes coming onto the market, but typically ...

NAR and realtor.com operator Move Inc. file suit against Zillow | Chappaqua Real Estate

Move Inc. and the National Association of Realtors have filed a lawsuit against Zillow and former Move Chief Strategy Officer and realtor.com President Errol Samuelson for alleged breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and misappropriation of trade secrets. Samuelson unexpectedly resigned from Move and joined Zillow as the portal giant’s chief industry development officer on March 5. The complaint, filed today, comes as Zillow announced it had hired another prominent Move exec, Curt Beardsley , as its new vice president of industry development. Beardsley assumed Samuelson’s industry relations role at Move after Samuelson’s departure. Beardsley is not mentioned in the complaint. NAR subsidiary Realtors Information Network (RIN) and Move subsidiaries RealSelect Inc. and Top Producer Systems Co. are also plaintiffs in the suit. In addition to Zillow and Samuelson, the complaint names “Does 1-20″ as defendants. “At Move, we take our trade secrets and intellectual property ex...

Canada’s real estate market | Armonk Real Estate

Last month, the Canadian government announced the termination of the Immigrant Investor and Federal Entrepreneur programs. This canceled the applications of approximately 65,000 individuals who were on the waiting list backlog for these two programs. Given that 70 percent of these applicants were from mainland China, and given the importance of Chinese investors to the Vancouver property market (especially in the high end), many analysts have predicted that this change in government policy will have a significantly negative effect on Vancouver-area real estate values. Before assessing what the true impact will be, let’s consider how these programs functioned, and where they had the most impact. The Canadian government introduced the Immigrant Investor Program in the mid-1980s in order to promote immigration by business people and their families. Quebec subsequently negotiated with the federal government to have its own, parallel program. The programs enabled qualified investo...
