Gifts from the Earth
Saturday, March 29,11:00am- 12:00pm
Presented at Teatown by Educators from Grassroots Environmental Education
This simple but powerful program introduces the very youngest children to some of the gifts the earth gives us...air, water, soil, sun and wind. A lively discussion is initiated about each of these life-giving gifts. Feeling a genuine thankfulness for these wonderful gifts, we then talk about what we give back to the earth. An introduction to pollution ensues with a unanimous and enthusiastic coming together to become better stewards of our generous, but vulnerable home. Creative props are used to help children grasp basic concepts. Children 5- 8 years old, Free!

Teatown is seeking a Forest Restoration Intern
Teatown Lake Reservation is looking for an intern to assist with its Wildflower Woods (WFW) restoration project. WFW is a 3-acre section of forest that has been fenced to exclude deer and is actively managed by planting native vegetation and removing invasive plants. This project serves as an outdoor exhibit demonstrating to visitors the components of a healthy forest.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing an invasive species control plan, planting native plants, repairing fencing, and assisting in the design of vegetative monitoring projects.
This is a full-time (35 h/week) temporary position from May 19 - August 22 (start and end dates flexible). This internship is a paid position. Must be able to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Experience with ecological field research and invasive species control strongly preferred.
To apply send a cover letter and resume including contact information for three references to Dr. Michael Rubbo, Teatown's Director of Conservation Science (mrubbo@teatown.org) by March 28, 2014.
We will only contact candidates of interest.

More information on the criteria and how to submit observations can be found on the website.
To learn more about becoming a member of this group of citizen scientists, please RSVP to attend the Wild Suburbia Project workshop on Thursday, March 27th, 7:00pm at Teatown!
