Officials congregated with supporters in front of the White Plains City Court to announce their endorsement of Rob Astorino (R) for county executive.
Astorino, who is running for his second term, is up against Democratic candidate Noam Bramson, mayor of New Rochelle, in the election on Nov. 5.
"County Executive Astorino is a thoughtful and balanced leader for the families of Westchester, and the Police Chiefs proudly endorse him for a second term," said the association's president, Eugene S. Tumulo, the former Peekskill chief of police.
The association emphasized Astorino's work to protect schools against gun violence and support for the law enforcement community.
"The Police Chiefs urge Westchester voters to return Mr. Astorino to office," he said.
"I take great pride in being endorsed by the Chiefs of Police Association both as a parent and as County Executive," Mr. Astorino said in a statement.
"These are the men and women I turn to for guidance on a constant basis, and their professionalism and know-how should make all of us grateful and proud. I am thrilled to be running for re-election with the Police Chiefs at my side," he said.
The association, based in Yorktown Heights, supports police chiefs in New York state by providing legal aid, benefits and a professional support network.
Tumulo told The Daily Voice, "We are an advocacy group for police chiefs and other high ranking officers. We protect the employment of command ranks, and keep them safe from political interference when it is not appropriate."
He said, "None of our citizens want to be asked what their political affiliations are, they want fair treatment. We make sure our command ranks are also not subject to that interference."
